- Metabolic syndrome (which the NIH reports 1/3 people have) lead to a greater risk of: cardiovascular disease (135%), cardiovascular mortality (140%), all-cause mortality (58%), heart attack (99%), stroke (127%), cancer (58% - with certain deadly types having drastically greater chance), and Alzheimer’s. (Here is the source for those.) If you have prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, which is a progression of metabolic syndrome, the risks are worse.
