If you have a spare $20 and are interested in these ideas, I would recommend purchasing Dr. K’s Guide to Meditation. There’s fascinating ideas and meditation practices in there you can’t find on YouTube, and it’s well organized.
A set of ideas often fall under the umbrella of Spirituality:
- Ego dissolution, which to me is one of the primary goals with spiritual practices and philosophy.
- Understanding the nature of your thoughts and emotions.
- Considering your attachments and the root of your suffering, and understanding the emotions you’re attached to and repulsed by.
- The impermanent nature of emotions & identities.
- Recognizing and embracing your life circumstances, accepting the past, and grieving the past. Embracing pain due to sense of duty towards yourself, others you are close to, or to the world. Drawing strength from believing in something larger than yourself.
- Recognizing duties/responsibilities that are shaped by your life circumstances, and your life narratives.
- Being present minded. Not taking actions based on their outcomes.
- Thinking about mortality and death, and recognizing how much those impact a fear of regret or anxieties.
